Another step in the green direction

The Wellington Convention Centre has yet again confirmed its commitment towards a more sustainable future by being awarded Green Globe certification - the second environmental standard for the forward thinking venue.

The Convention Centre chose to pursue a Green Globe certification due to its recognition that Green Globe is the certification of choice within the New Zealand Tourism Industry, and the C&I sector. As a certification which is widely understood and respected by tourism operators in New Zealand and Australia, Green Globe provides a benchmarking process where organisations can work to continually reduce their energy consumption and waste.

"Achieving this certification is only the beginning for the Convention Centre" says General Manager, Neville Brown.  "As part of the benchmarking process, we will continue to monitor our electricity and water consumption and waste in order to identify areas where we can further reduce our impact on the environment. Sustainability is an integral part of how we operate."

The Wellington Convention Centre became the first Convention Centre in New Zealand to achieve the ISO 14001 environmental accreditation in October 2007 and intends to continue this trend with its Green Globe recognition.
